Sarah Washington

Sarah Washington is an artist and organiser working in the fields of sound, music and radio. Formerly a Director of the London Musicians' Collective, she helped set-up the radio station Resonance 104.4FM and the international radio art network Radia. Her main interests are the creation of unusual radio works and the performance of live improvised music. To create sounds she builds hand-made electronic instruments: circuit bending electronic devices and employing ultrasound and radio technology. She occasionally writes articles on radio and sound art, and produces workshops for cultural institutions across Europe. In 2005 she started the travelling radio project Mobile Radio together with Knut Aufermann. They also have a performance duo, Tonic Train, which they often team up with other musicians and artists. Sarah's radio series Hearing in Tongues was commissioned by the Tate Modern in London.
