EL FUTURO (2013)

El Futuro re-enacts a party night of a bunch of friends in the 80’s. It was during those nights that Spanish society discovered freedom, after the never-ending decades of the Franco regime. Youth, willing to break away from the past and embrace what was about to come, led movements such as the movida, or the Madrilenian scene, but also far away from Madrid, in any other city of the country. López Carrasco gazes at these youngsters, vividly dressed and zealous, who talk about the Americans, drugs, grandmothers and microwaves, ETA’s terrorism, public protests, or even putting lipstick on a Civil Guard; and who break taboos as if it was the most natural thing to do.

El Futuro looks like an amateur home movie shot from a corner during a party with an telephoto, that - with long footage - focus on faces and people dancing, drinking, laughting, smoking, talking in a simular way as you find in a film by Stephen Dwoskin or Andy Warhol - where you only have the fiction of a group of people and there’s not any real interest in any narrative from the filmmaker. EL FUTURO also reminds of some of the structuralist films of the Seventies there the film itself shows time and space and using it in an expressive way like Michael Snow’s "Wavelength".

The soundtrack with some of the best Spanish underground post new wave punk music of the 1980s (Aviador Dro, Ciudad Jardín, Fanzine and so on), has a predominant role that abolishes the human voice of the characters and embodies a feeling of noise, distrurbance and the difficulty to articulate a discourse.
