Alexandra Nilsson & Pierce Warnecke

Konsert

Alexandra Nilsson is a composer, sound artist and performer, whose work stretches across electroacoustic music, sound art, noise, and performative practices. She is interested in the interaction and borderland between acoustic and electronic sound worlds, along with transformations and transcendence of the material. Lyrical as well as brutal, minimalist and maximalist, her art moves through the delicate and subtle expressions to the harsh and fierce.

She has composed for dance, film, chamber ensembles and orchestra and frequently collaborates with dancers, performers and visual artists, such as the ongoing projects Sisterloops with performing artist Marie Gavois and the audiovisual duo Shapes of Sounds with illustrator Jenny Soep. Her music has been performed at concert halls such as Stockholm Concert Hall, as well as noise festivals such as dESTRUKTIVA.

She has recently released the album Radio Two with trumpeter Susana Santos Silva on the label SUPERPANG.

FOSSIL is her ongoing project where she works with stones, both acoustically and performatively. This will be the premiere in Stockholm for her latest work for limestone, sandstone and electronics, which premiered at Göteborg Art Sounds Festival in October 2022.

Statement:
"My work stems from interest in the effects of time on matter: modification, deterioration and disappearance. Whether the focus is on digital forms or rough materials, large scales of time or microscopic details, the goal of these pieces is to re-adapt existing sonic, visual or physical objects and materials into parallel contexts where their signified meanings, symbols and cultural connections have become residual ghosts; abstractions with loose connections to reality, like distant memories.
The possibility of altering the 'real' (or one's perception of it) through the intensity of physical experience lies at the core of how I compose, by working with contrasting scales of activity (from static to frenetic) and focusing on the limits of human perception in regards to duration, frequency and amplitude of both visual and sonic material.
I am interested in challenging what we can hear and what we can see in order to develop a personal language combining sound, light, movement, color, shape, texture and structure."
